ولد الفنان حمدي أحمد في ٩ من نوفمبر عام ١٩٣٣ بمحافظة سوهاج ورحل عن عالمنا في ٨ من يناير عام ٢٠١٦ عن عمر يناهز ٨٢ عامًا.
اشتهر الفنان حمدي أحمد بلقب “عمدة الممثلين “، كما تميز بأنه صاحب حضور مميز بالاضافة الي خفة ظله واختياره لأدواره الفنية بعناية، لم يكن الفنان حمدي أحمد ممثل فقط بل عمل بالسياسة وله تاريخ طويل منذ أن اعتقله الاحتلال الإنجليزي خلال اشتراكه في مظاهرة ضدهم عام ١٩٤٩ ، وكان يبلغ من العمر وقتها ستة عشر عاما، مثل الفنان حمدي احمد دائرة بولاق في مجلس الشعب المصري عام ١٩٧٩، كان معارضا قويا للانظمة السياسية في مصر، هذا غير انه كان كاتبا وصحفي، وكتب العديد من المقالات السياسية في صحف عديدة منها: “الشعب، الأهالي، الأحرار، الميدان، الخميس”وكان له عمودًا ثابتًا بعنوان “رؤية” في جريدة الأسبوع منذ ١٩٩٨ حتى وفاته..
قدم اكثر من ١٥٠ عمل فني ما بين سينما ومسرح ومسلسلات تليفزيونية ومن أعماله الفنية البارزة “القاهرة ٣٠ ، الأرض، أبناء الصمت ، البداية، قاهر الظلام ، عرق البلح ، سوق المتعة ، صرخة نملة ”
ومن المسلسلات “الوسية ، جمهورية زفتي ، بوابة المتولي ، الحارة ، إمام الدعاة، السمان والخريف، اللص والكلاب”.
من المناصب التي شغلها “منصب مدير المسرح الكوميدي عام ١٩٨٥”..
حصل علي العديد من الجوائز الفنية منها: ” جائزة جامعة الدول العربية عام ١٩٦٧ عن دوره في فيلم القاهرة ٣٠، وجائزة عن فيلم أبناء الصمت”..
