وفي أحدث التصعيد، أعلنت وزارة الداخلية في غزة، اليوم الخميس 13 أغسطس، استشهاد مدير شرطة محافظة غزة، العقيد جمال محمود أبو كميل، بعد استهداف مركبته بقصف جوي إسرائيلي على شارع الرشيد جنوب غربي مدينة غزة. وكان أبو كميل يبلغ من العمر 43 عامًا.
لم يكن استهداف أبو كميل حادثًا معزولًا؛ فقد تزامن مع غارات إسرائيلية أخرى على القطاع، بينها قصف في مدينة خانيونس أدى إلى مقتل فلسطيني آخر وإصابة آخرين، وفق تقارير محلية.
وتعيد هذه الضربات طرح السؤال حول معنى الهدنة بالنسبة لسكان غزة. فبالنسبة لعائلات أنهكتها الحرب وفقدت منازلها وأحبتها، لا تكفي أيام قليلة من الهدوء لتشعر بالأمان، ولا يمكن اعتبار وقف مؤقت لإطلاق النار نهايةً للحرب ما دام القصف قادرًا على العودة في أي لحظة.
استهداف مسؤول أمني رفيع في مدينة غزة، إلى جانب سقوط مدنيين في غارات أخرى، يوضح أن الهدوء على الأرض لا يزال هشًا، وأن أي خرق جديد يمكن أن يعيد القطاع سريعًا إلى دائرة التصعيد.
