حددت إدارة الحماية المدنية مجموعة من التعليمات والوصايا الهامة للوقاية من أخطار تسرب غاز اسطوانات البوتجاز ومنها:
- فى حالة تسرب الغاز يجب تهوية المكان جيدا لإيقاف التسرب.
- عدم إشعال أى وسيلة إلا بعد التأكد من وقف التسرب وتهوية المكان.
- يجب استخدام قطعة قماش مبللة لقفل محبس الأسطوانة ثم نقلها لمكان جيد للتهوية.
- يجب فحص مفاتيح مواقد الطهى باستمرار للتأكد من عدم وجود تسريب.
- لا تعرض الأسطوانة لحرارة الشمس لفترات طويلة، وتجنب تخزينها داخل المنازل.
- فى حالة وجود حريق يجب إغلاق الأسطوانة وفصلها عن الجهاز وإبعادها خارج الشقة.
- يتم فحص التسرب لأسطوانة الغاز بعد تركيبها بواسطة رغوة الصابون وليس بواسطة أعواد الثقاب.
- يجب الاستعانة بفنى متخصص فى حالة استبدال منظم وخراطيم الغاز عند تلفها أو بشكل دورى كل عام.
- يجب وضع الأسطوانة بعيداً عن المواد المشتعلة كالوقود ومواقد التسخين.
- يجب عدم وضع أسطوانة الغاز داخل إناء من الماء الساخن
