وكان اللواء حسن عبد العزيز، مساعد وزير الداخلية ومدير أمن سوهاج، قد تلقى إخطارًا من العميد تامر تمام، مأمور مركز شرطة طما، يفيد بورود بلاغ من بعض أهالي نجوع قرية الرياينة المعلّق، بشأن انبعاث رائحة غريبة من أحد المنازل بالمنطقة.
وعلى الفور، انتقلت قوة أمنية إلى محل البلاغ، ضمّت الرائد محمد أبو سيف رئيس فرع بحث الشمال، والعميد تامر تمام مأمور المركز، والرائد مدحت ماضي، والنقيب رائد أبو العز، والنقيب أحمد مظهر من وحدة مباحث مركز شرطة طما، واللواء أحمد الششتيني لواء شمال.
وبالفحص، تبين صحة البلاغ، حيث عُثر على جثة شاب يُدعى رفعت أبو الوفا، يبلغ من العمر 46 عامًا، متوفى منذ قرابة يومين، وظهرت عليه علامات تحلل، ما تسبب في انبعاث الرائحة. وتبين أن المتوفى كان يقيم بمفرده داخل المنزل، بعيدًا عن مسكن أسرته.
وجرى نقل الجثة إلى مشرحة مستشفى طما العام تحت تصرف النيابة العامة، وتحرير محضر بالواقعة.
وأُخطرت النيابة العامة التي باشرت التحقيق، وطلبت من وحدة مباحث مركز شرطة طما إجراء التحريات اللازمة حول ملابسات الواقعة، والتصريح بدفن الجثة عقب الانتهاء من الإجراءات القانونية.
